Description

The ProcessLogix controller is designed specifically for process control, incorporating all the features required for advanced process control applications. Control hardware includes a rack, power supply, 1757-PLX52 control processor, ControlINet bridge, redundancy modules, and /O modules. An optional battery expansion module (not shown) is also available. Racks are available in five sizes: 4, 7, 10, 13, and 17 slots.

The 1757-PLX52 control processor module consists of a dual-slot, double-sided circuit board, employing a 100MHz PowerPC603E processor and 8MB of RAM with error detection and correction. It supports both redundant and non-redundant control system schemes. A 4MB parity-protected flash ROM is used for permanent program storage and easy upgrades. An internal lithium battery stores the controller's data; an optional rechargeable dual-slot battery expansion module can replace the lithium battery.

The process controller, using the 1757-PLX52 control processor, can handle a wide range of control requirements, including continuous regulation, batch processes, discrete control, and machine control. The 1757-PLX52 is a compact, high-performance, cost-effective processor, ideal for integrated continuous regulation, high-speed logic, sequential control, and batch control applications. Control functions are provided through a function block library. Using the popular graphical engineering tool ControlBuilder, control strategies can be easily created, and once created, they can be downloaded and monitored through ControlBuilder.

The process controller supports interoperability over ControlNet, enabling communication with Allen-Bradley controllers such as PLC-5/C and ControlLogix platforms. This allows for applications integrating high-speed logic control and process control. The ProcessLogix server provides monitoring and control capabilities for controllers, including ControlLogix processors, PLCs, and PLC-5 processors.
