Functional Description
The EX2100e Excitation Control System I/O Interface (ESYS) module interfaces basic I/O external to the
exciter with the control system. lt handles most of the system I/O interfaces, including PT and CT inputs,
digital control inputs, customer analog I/O, general-purpose relays, and trip relay outputs. The interface to
the customer I/O is through pluggable screw terminal boards and interface to the EX2100e control system is
through HSLA high-speed serial link (HSSL) daughterboards that are mounted on the ESYS. The ESYS module
is used in both the static and regulator systems.
Basic features of the ESYS include:
· Three substantially identical sections M1, M2, and C, for redundancy.
- C is largely depopulated for dual control applications. A signal from M2 is used to select whether M1 or M2
controls the redundant outputs
- M2 and C are depopulated for simplex applications.
- Each section supports its own HSLA board for HSSL interface to the control.
- Each section has its own 28 V dc power source connector.
· Features of each HSLA that are used by ESYS include:
- RJ-45 CAT5e Ethernet interface and connector (J3).
- Field programmable gate array (FPGA) that supports both HSSL and ESYS functions.
- 3.3 V dc power supply for the ESYS board.
- Power-on and HSSL-initiated board reset signal.
- Green power-on LED and red attention LED (controlled by application FPGA).
- Green link LED and a yellow TX/RX LED for the HSSL.
- Local ambient temperature sensing.
- Board identification (lD) interface.
· Customer I/O
- Four general-purpose relay outputs (2 out of 3 voting redundancy at the coil driver).
- Two trip relay outputs (2 out of 3 voting redundancy at the contact outputs).
- Seven general-purpose contact inputs (optocoupler output fanned to control sections).
- One special-purpose contact input (optocoupler output fanned to control sections).
- Four 120 V ac potential transformer (PT) inputs (fanned to each control section).
- Two standard 5 A or 1 A Current Transformer (CT) inputs (fanned to each control section).
- Optional third 5 A or 1 A CT input, using the ECTX board (fanned to each control section).
- Two general-purpose analog inputs (independent delta/sigma conversion to each control section)
- Four 12-bit analog outputs (driven by M1 or M2).
· Other on-board features
- Four external power source monitors (fanned to each control section).
- Board lD (one for each control section).
- 55 V dc supply for contact wetting (redundant from M1 and M2).
- HSLAs can be online repaired in TMR applications (not hot-swap).
